On the afternoon of July 25, at the working session to solve the problem of flooding in Can Tho City, the leader of the City Department of Construction said that as of July 23, the Department had received 38 information, ideas, and solutions to prevent flooding for the city through official dispatches, electronic boxes, Zalo, etc. Initially, there were 22 groups of solutions focusing on improving drainage systems, controlling high tides, building flood-proof infrastructure and applying smart technology.
Some typical groups of solutions include: building underground water reservoirs combined with mobile pumping stations; improving manholes, installing smart manholes; applying the " Spong City" model; designing rainforests, green roofs, biological corridors; equipping underground water bags, tanks to reuse rainwater; upgrading, expanding drainage systems and integrating anti-flooding solutions into urban and traffic planning.
Notably, some ideas proposed to invite foreign experts to support the city in designing flood prevention solutions, as well as operating smart pumping stations, building tidal dams and using new materials such as empty concrete, fiber concrete for sidewalks and alleys to increase water penetration.

According to the preliminary assessment of the Department of Construction, many groups of solutions have been and are being implemented through key projects such as: Can Tho City Development and Enhancement of Urban Resilience Project (using the FRMIS flood risk management system); investing in the construction of automatic dykes and culverts; renovating 32 inner-city roads; building large pumping stations such as Chau Van Liem, Ho Sen, etc.
The above items are currently in the acceptance and handover stage, initially promoting the effectiveness of flood prevention in the city center. In the coming time, the Department of Construction will continue to evaluate operational efficiency, at the same time study and absorb, select the most feasible ideas from the community to advise the City People's Committee on implementation.
The Department of Construction recommended that the People's Committee of Can Tho City assign this unit to coordinate with the Office of the People's Committee of the City to send a letter of thanks to organizations and individuals who have proposed flood prevention ideas. At the same time, the Department proposed to continue receiving the initiative until July 31, 2025 to synthesize, select feasible solutions, and advise the City People's Committee to consider rewarding according to regulations.
Previously, to solve the flooding problem in Can Tho City during high tides and heavy rains, Chairman of the City People's Committee Tran Van Lau called on cadres to boldly propose and take drastic actions to solve the flooding problem. He announced that he would award 50 million VND, award an unexpected certificate of merit and consider planning at a higher position for any cadre who came up with an effective idea to help the city fight flooding and limit flooding in the next few rains.
The Chairman of the People's Committee of Can Tho City also assigned the Department of Construction to be the unit to receive information, ideas, and solutions for flood prevention from people and organizations to synthesize, evaluate, and advise the City People's Committee to select feasible solutions. At the same time, coordinate with the Department of Home Affairs to reward organizations and individuals with initiatives and solutions to prevent flooding in accordance with regulations.
