The People's Committee of Ninh Binh province has just reported and proposed to the Ministry of Construction on investment in the construction of many strategic transport infrastructure projects, including Ninh Binh International Airport.
According to the report, implementing the direction of the Prime Minister (October No. 6513/VPCP dated July 14, 2025), the People's Committee of Ninh Binh province is urgently developing a Project "Research on the possibility of forming Ninh Binh International Airport" to submit to the Ministry of Construction for consideration and report to the Prime Minister to add to the Master Plan for the development of the national airport system for the period 2021 - 2030, with a vision to 2050.
The report stated that through surveys and preliminary research, the province plans Ninh Binh International Airport to be located in Liem Tuyen ward, with a relatively favorable distance to key traffic units in the area.
Accordingly, Noi Bai International Airport is about 80km; Cat Bi Airport (Hai Phong) is about 85km; Gia Binh Airport (under study) is about 63km; Tho Xuan Airport (Thanh Hoa) is about 85km.
The station on the North - South high-speed railway line: Phu Ly Station is about 5km; Ninh Binh Station is about 43km; Nam Dinh Station is about 17km; the old Phu Ly City center (now Phu Ly Ward) is about 8km; the old Hoa Lu City is about 30km; the old Nam Dinh City is about 22km.
The expected scale of the airport is planned to meet level 4E standards according to the classification of the International Civil Aviation Organization, with 2 parallel runways. The total planned area is about 720ha.
The initial designed capacity is about 10 million passengers/year; there is a reserve of land to expand to meet the development needs in the following stages.
Also according to the report of the People's Committee of Ninh Binh province, in the context of increasing urbanization speed, large population and diverse economic development with spearhead industries such as tourism, industry, services and logistics, investment in airport construction has become an urgent requirement, contributing to the completion of the local strategic infrastructure system.
The formation of an international airport not only plays the role of an important trade gateway, meeting the growing travel demand between countries and regions, but also a driving force to attract investment, improve competitiveness and production capacity of the economy. The airport will contribute to promoting regional and inter-regional linkages, effectively exploiting the potential of heritage, cultural and spiritual tourism, creating more job opportunities and livelihoods for people.
