On September 15, the People's Committee of Can Tho City held a meeting to consider the investment proposal for the Can Tho Western Ring Road Project (the section connecting National Highway 91 to National Highway 80). This is a group A project, using state budget capital, decided by the locality for investment and expected to be implemented in the period of 2025 - 2030.

The project aims to synchronously connect with the beltway section from the South Hau River (Cai quen Port) to National Highway 91 that is currently under construction (more than 19 km long, with a total investment of over VND 3,837 billion, starting from November 2022).
The new route is about 16.7 km long, starting at Thoi Long ward and ending at Vinh Trinh commune. The project will pass through many important urban development areas and agricultural production areas, playing a vital role in transportation connecting the western districts of the city.

The consulting unit has studied 4 different investment options. In which, the option with the lowest investment cost is proposed to be chosen. With this plan, the first step is to clear the roadbed of 80 m wide, of which 22 m is constructed in advance (2 lanes, 11 m on each side), and between 41 m is reserved land. The route length is about 16.7 km, has 6 intersections, standard level III roads, design speed 80 km/h.
The total preliminary investment for the project is about VND 8,100 billion, of which the cost of site clearance is more than VND 2,500 billion; the construction cost is nearly VND 4,400 billion.

Concluding the meeting, Mr. Nguyen Van Hoa - Vice Chairman of Can Tho City People's Committee requested that the consulting unit continue to complete the dossier, concise the two most feasible options to compare and submit to the City People's Committee for consideration.
At the same time, Mr. Nguyen Van Hoa emphasized that it is necessary to clearly identify this route as an urban road or a plain road, to comply with the city's post-merger planning.
Regarding compensation and resettlement costs, Mr. Nguyen Van Hoa requested that consultants need to carefully calculate the reality, comply with current policies, and avoid the situation where they have to adjust capital up/down like previous projects.
