On September 8, the Chairman of the Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee agreed in principle to adjust the route of the Quy Nhon - Pleiku expressway construction investment project, the section passing through An Khe Pass.
Accordingly, from Km22+000 location, the route direction is gradually adjusted to the North, about 1.5km from option 1B, in Binh Khe commune.
Then, the route follows the northern mountainside to the An Khe Pass area (Km34+500), then follows the mountainside to the south, about 3.5km from route 1B, to gradually increase the elevation and reduce the slope to Km39+960.
The adjustment of the route direction increases the length of the expressway project by about 1km and increases the site clearance volume by about 10ha.
However, the authorities of Gia Lai province assessed that this option has many advantages: reducing the number of tunnels (from 2 to 1); reducing the length of bridges with special structures (552m compared to 2,148m); and an average slope smaller. Thanks to that, construction costs have decreased by about 1,084 billion VND.
The Quy Nhon - Pleiku Expressway is designed with 4 lanes, a 24.75m wide roadbed, and a design speed of 100 km/h. However, when passing through An Khe and Mang Yang passes, the maximum speed is only under 80 km/h.
The project is proposed in the form of public investment, with a total preliminary capital of more than 43,730 billion VND.
