During the process of taking DNA biological samples of martyrs' remains at the Ha Tien Ward Martyrs' Cemetery, An Giang province, Team No. 1 and No. 3, Steering Committee 515 of An Giang province discovered many artifacts, including a heavily damaged portrait photo. After being restored by specialized agencies, the image of a young woman appeared quite clearly, opening up more clues to find information about the martyr.
When discovered, the photo was stained, dirty, and many details peeled off after a long time in the tomb. Through restoration, it can be observed that the person in the photo is a fairly young woman, hair rooted, with many clips on her hair, wearing a dark-colored shirt.
It is not yet determined who the woman in the photo is and what her relationship with the martyr is. However, the fact that the photo is kept with the remains may be an important clue for relatives, comrades and acquaintances to identify and provide more information to functional agencies.
In addition to the photo, the task force also discovered many personal items such as combs, belts and some other artifacts. The artifacts were recorded according to each grave location, preserved for verification and information comparison.
According to updated data as of August 25, 2026, at Ha Tien Martyrs' Cemetery, the task force has opened 1,608 graves, of which 1,280 DNA biological samples were taken; 328 graves were not sampled. Among these, there are 117 graves without remains, 196 cases of decomposed and broken samples, and 15 cases of samples mixed with many remains.
Across the entire province of An Giang, as of August 25, the task force had opened 4,368 graves, taken 3,233 DNA biological samples; 1,135 graves had not been sampled. To date, 1,133 samples have been handed over, and 2,100 samples have not been handed over.
Steering Committee 515 of An Giang province hopes that relatives of martyrs, veterans, comrades and people will carefully observe the original photo, post-reconstruction photos and artifacts found. If they recognize the woman in the photo or have information related to the martyr buried and repatriated at Ha Tien Martyrs' Cemetery, please provide information, images, documents or remaining documents for functional agencies to check and compare.
