On August 20, Steering Committee 515 of An Giang province said that it had organized the handover of 598 samples of martyrs' remains taken at Chau Phu, Cho Moi, Tinh Bien and Tri Ton Martyrs' Cemeteries to the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology for DNA testing and identifying missing martyrs' remains.
The working delegation transported and handed over samples under the responsibility of Lieutenant Colonel Vuong Thanh Trieu, Deputy Head of the Political Department of An Giang Provincial Military Command, along with officials of the Provincial Military Command and the Provincial Department of Home Affairs. The samples were transported from An Giang to the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology in Hanoi according to strict management and preservation procedures.
Before handover, functional agencies conducted review and comparison of dossiers of each tomb, sample location, cemetery diagram and sample sheet. A total of 598 sample sheets corresponding to 598 graves were prepared, inspected and handed over with samples, ensuring that complete information can be traced, minimizing the risk of confusion during the appraisal process.
During the transportation process, martyrs' remains samples are packaged and preserved according to the correct procedures to maintain integrity, without being affected by temperature, humidity or shaking. The handover is carried out closely between Steering Committee 515 of An Giang province and the receiving unit, and at the same time, information is updated and digitized on the martyrs' remains sample management software according to regulations.
According to the plan, the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology is the unit assigned by the National Steering Committee to receive and conduct DNA testing for martyrs' remains samples of An Giang province. The test results will be an important basis for continuing to compare with relatives' data, gradually identifying and returning names to martyrs who lack information.
The handover of 598 samples this time continues to concretize the efforts of Steering Committee 515 of An Giang province in accelerating the progress of sampling, DNA testing and identifying martyrs' remains; meeting the expectations of relatives and families of martyrs after many years of waiting for information about their loved ones.
