On the afternoon of November 24, Mr. Ho Van Tran - Chairman of the People's Committee of Tra Ka commune, Bac Tra My district, Quang Nam province informed Lao Dong that local authorities are trying to find a missing 2-year-old child, suspected of falling into a stream.
The missing child is named D.H.T.V (2 years old, Ca Dong ethnic group), living in Xa Nu hamlet, village 1, Tra Ka commune.
My house is near a stream, a poor household, the family has 2 children, DHTV and a newborn. At about 4pm on November 22, my mother went to the kitchen to boil water to bathe her child, when she came back, the baby was nowhere to be seen.
"Locals said they saw the child playing near the stream next to his house before he went missing," said the leader of Tra Ka commune.
“Over the past two days, despite heavy rain and high risk of landslides, local militia, rescue and shock troops have been actively following rivers and streams to search for the child. However, heavy rains have caused the river water to flow rapidly, making the search very difficult.
“The child has not been found yet. We suspect that he was swept away by the water after falling into the stream,” said Mr. Ho Van Tran.
Regarding the heavy rain that has lasted for the past few days, the Quang Nam Department of Transport said that the road surface of National Highway 14D, through the mountainous area of Nam Giang, is seriously damaged with a series of potholes and mud, making it very difficult for vehicles to travel.
By dawn on November 24, more than 2,500 cubic meters of soil and rock from the positive slope at km80+000, on National Highway 40B through Tra Giac commune (Bac Tra My) had collapsed onto the roadbed, causing traffic congestion.
Landslides also occurred on National Highway 24C, passing through Tra Nu and Tra Giang communes (Bac Tra My). The road management unit has made efforts to repair and reopen the landslide area.
