Thai court suspends Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra from office

Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra is suspended from work until a final verdict.

The Thai Constitutional Court on July 1 decided to suspend Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra from work after a leak in a recording of a call between her and Cambodian Senate President Hun Sen.

In a meeting on July 1, the Thai court announced the approval of a petition filed by 36 lawmakers last month to remove Ms. Paetongtarn from office.

Ms. Paetongtarn will be suspended from office until the court makes a final decision.

The leaked recording has put Ms. Paetongtarn in a difficult position, especially after a key party withdrew from the ruling coalition two weeks ago.

Ms. Paetongtarn, 38, was elected Prime Minister of Thailand in August last year, after her predecessor Srettha Thavisin was sent off by the Constitutional Court for a cabinet appointment decision that was considered unconstitutional.
