Ring Road 2.5 races construction amidst prolonged rains
The Ring Road 2.5 project section passing through Cau Giay ward has a total length of 1,130m, a cross-section of 50m.
In which, the section from Cau Giay street to Dich Vong New Urban Area is 420m long, the section from Dich Vong New Urban Area to Duong Dinh Nghe street is 710m long and is being implemented according to the urgent construction order of the Hanoi People's Committee.
After a period of urgent deployment, the Ring Road 2.5 construction site section passing through Cau Giay is being organized synchronously with many construction fronts. Machinery and manpower are continuously mobilized to meet progress requirements in unfavorable weather conditions.
At the construction site, in the days leading up to National Day September 2nd, many items are being deployed in parallel. Roadbed areas are being treated, gravel is being spread and compacted; some locations are under construction of curbs, drainage systems and related items.
However, the continuous rains in recent times are creating no less pressure for construction work. Prolonged heavy rains not only interrupt some outdoor work but also directly affect the treatment of the roadbed and asphalt paving.
Talking to Lao Dong Newspaper, Mr. Do Van Giap, Commander of the 2.5 Ring Road construction site section passing through Cau Giay, said that prolonged scattered heavy rain has significantly affected the progress, especially the asphalt paving work.
According to Mr. Giap, to adapt to the weather, contractors must flexibly adjust construction plans at each time. When it rains heavily, workers are arranged to perform appropriate tasks such as installing curbs, spreading and compacting roadbed gravel.
Efforts to complete the first 500m of road before September 2nd, the entire route technically open to traffic on October 10th.
Meanwhile, for drainage culvert items, continuous rain makes deep foundation pits at risk of being flooded. The construction unit has to mobilize pumps to drain water, which both incurs additional costs and makes construction organization difficult.
In particular, when heavy rain appears, work that poses a risk of unsafety such as digging soil or working at deep foundation pits must be temporarily stopped. This is to limit risks for workers and ensure safe construction conditions.
However, the contractor is still focusing manpower and machinery to complete about 400-500m of the first road surface from the starting point. The goal is to take advantage of favorable weather to deploy asphalt paving, aiming to technically open this section of the route before September 2nd and it is expected that the entire Ring Road 2.5 section passing through Cau Giay ward will be technically opened to traffic on October 10th, 2026.
Witnessing the road gradually forming, Mr. Le Anh Thien, a resident of Cau Giay ward, said that he was surprised by the construction speed, regardless of sun or rain, of the team of workers implementing the project from the beginning of 2026 to now.
According to Mr. Thien, when completed, the road is expected to contribute to improving traffic and creating a new face for the area.
Previously, on March 20, 2026, Hanoi City started the Ring Road 2.5 project with three sections of about 2.26km long, including the section from Cau Giay road to Duong Dinh Nghe; the section from Vu Pham Ham to Tran Duy Hung; and the section from Nguy Nhu Kon Tum to Nguyen Trai, located in Cau Giay, Yen Hoa and Thanh Xuan wards.
When closed, Ring Road 2.5 is expected to contribute to reallocating vehicle flow, reducing pressure on Ring Road 2 and Ring Road 3 routes, and completing the urban transport network.
In the current period, maintaining progress in the middle of the rainy season is not a simple problem. Contractors must both take advantage of each favorable weather period and adjust construction teams to ensure project quality and labor safety.
