The heavy rain on the night of July 31 and early morning of August 1 caused flash floods and terrible landslides, causing heavy damage to people and property in many mountainous communes of Dien Bien province.
As of 5:00 p.m. on August 3, the whole province had 10 deaths, 12 injuries, and more than 550 houses swept away and damaged. The total damage is estimated at up to 500 billion VND.



Immediately after the natural disaster occurred, local authorities and police and military forces mobilized maximum human resources and means to focus on responding, searching for missing people, and moving people and property to safety. At the same time, focus on overcoming the consequences to help people soon stabilize their lives.
More than 1,250 people have been mobilized to participate in disaster recovery and search and rescue. Including nearly 400 military officers and soldiers; 259 police officers and soldiers and 600 people from on-site forces. These forces have been present in all areas where flash floods and landslides occurred to carry out search and rescue work and overcome the consequences.




At the scene, police and military officers and soldiers leveled thousands of cubic meters of soil and rock to clear the main roads, searched for and brought all missing people, and coordinated with medical forces to take the injured to treatment facilities.
The forces also helped people move their assets to safe places, transport relief goods... After the fierce flood passed, these forces were assigned to help people rebuild temporary houses, cover the roofs, collect and clean up mud.


On the afternoon of August 3, after inspecting the work of overcoming the consequences of natural disasters at flooded areas, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh acknowledged and commended the province's proactiveness and concentration, the functional forces were present in time, focusing on implementing the work of preventing, combating and overcoming the consequences.


The Prime Minister also requested immediate support of 100 million VND/household (for 80 households with completely damaged houses); 30 million VND/household (for 241 households with severe damage); assigned the Ministry of National Defense to preside over and coordinate with the Ministry of Public Security to urgently implement procedures to build houses for the people.
Based on reviewing and updating the damage of the province, ministries and functional branches directed specialized forces to support the province in overcoming power grid, transportation, healthcare, education and telecommunications.
The Prime Minister directed the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front to balance the reserve fund, urgently support Dien Bien with 200 billion VND to urgently deploy the work of overcoming natural disasters in the immediate future; and at the same time provide 100 tons of rice to provide relief to flood areas.
In recent days, floods and landslides in the North Central and Northern mountainous provinces have killed and left many people missing, houses, schools and maple blossoms were swept away and submerged in mud, affecting local production activities.
