Chairman of Gia Lai province directs to thoroughly handle illegal constructions that have existed for many years

Gia Lai - A series of illegal constructions in Quy Nhon Nam ward have been brazenly existed for many years, despite being fined and forced to be demolished.

After Lao Dong Newspaper's reflection on the situation of a series of illegal constructions in Quy Nhon Nam Ward (Gia Lai) still blatantly existing despite being fined and forced to be demolished, Chairman of Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee Pham Anh Tuan said that he would direct strict handling of violations.

"This is a burning issue for the province, it is necessary to completely handle this situation," Mr. Pham Anh Tuan resolutely said.

Illegal constructions still "light up" for many years

According to Lao Dong's records in early August, a series of illegal constructions such as houses, shops, spontaneous tourist attractions... along National Highway 1D (in Ghenh Rang ward, Quy Nhon city, old Binh Dinh), now Quy Nhon Nam ward (Gia Lai) is always " lit up", fully supplied with electricity for daily life, although according to current regulations it is not allowed.

The " Sudden" violating project with electricity caused many serious consequences, violated urban planning, created a bad precedent, and encouraged the spread of violations. At the same time, there are many potential risks of fire and explosion, causing overload of the power grid, affecting the quality of electricity supply to households and legal facilities in the area.

So, why have illegal constructions been supplied with electricity and operated openly for many years?

Responding to this, the leader of Gia Lai Province Electricity Company said that the reason for these violating projects being supplied with electricity before was that the authorities and the police of the old Ghenh Rang ward had confirmed that the projects were occupied - the conditions for being supplied with electricity at that time.

Previously, the old Ghenh Rang ward and the ward police did not inform them that these were illegal constructions, but only confirmed that there were people living there, so the company had to provide electricity. The power supply process was then in accordance with procedures, but is no longer suitable.

The leader of Gia Lai Province Power Company said that unilateral power outages in these cases are currently very difficult, because the company previously supplied electricity based on local confirmation papers. 1-2 years ago, the locality proposed cutting off electricity to these cases, but it is unclear why it was not implemented.

"Now that the province and the ward have decided to enforce the demolition, the company will coordinate to cut off the power to these violating works to ensure safety," said the leader of Gia Lai Province Power Company.

The authorities will take action if the locality is slow to handle

As Lao Dong has reported, for nearly 3 years, illegal constructions on forest land and agricultural land in Quy Nhon Nam ward have been blatantly existing, even continuing to bloom, "boiling" despite being handled and forced to be demolished. Along National Highway 1D alone, a series of illegal constructions have sprung up solidly and majestically, occupying the entire frontage of the national highway.

According to the People's Committee of Quy Nhon Nam Ward, from July 1, 2025 (after the merger) to now, the ward has inspected and discovered 14 cases of land encroachment, of which 3 works were forced to be demolished, 3 cases were demolished by the people themselves, the remaining 8 cases are waiting to be handled.

From the beginning of 2023 to before July 1, 2025, the old Ghenh Rang ward has prepared documents and developed a plan for enforcement against 86 cases of illegal construction on agricultural and forestry land. Of which, there are 23 cases in the first 6 months of 2025.

For violating constructions along National Highway 1D, the People's Committee of the old Ghenh Rang Ward has recently forced the demolition of 43 cases. For establishments selling food, chicken lonely... along this route, the old Ghenh Rang ward has administratively sanctioned 16 cases.

Mr. Le Cong Trinh - Vice Chairman of Quy Nhon Nam Ward People's Committee - affirmed that the ward's viewpoint is to resolutely and strictly handle land violations. New violations will be immediately dismantled; old cases will be reviewed for accommodation conditions, economy... if they meet the conditions, they will be dismantled. However, when asked about the specific roadmap, Mr. Trinh said he would "review".

Regarding the handling, Mr. Cao Thanh Thuong - Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Gia Lai province - said that the Department will immediately check the information reported by the newspaper, and at the same time requested the local government to urgently intervene in handling according to regulations. "If the locality does not handle it, the Department will handle it," said Mr. Thuong.
