On August 9, the People's Committee of Gia Lai province directed functional agencies and local authorities to urgently and drastically deploy measures to prevent African swine fever.
From the beginning of 2025 to now, African swine fever has occurred in 34 provinces and cities across the country. The total number of pigs that were sick, died and destroyed was 124,729. The epidemic in the provinces bordering Gia Lai is complicated, while the whole province has recorded 17 outbreaks.

Faced with the above situation, Mr. Duong Mah Tiep - Vice Chairman of Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee - requested the Chairmen of communes and wards to focus on directing epidemic prevention and control. Absolutely do not let the reorganization of the apparatus affect the effectiveness of epidemic prevention and control.
"The commune and ward chairmen must be fully responsible to the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee if they are subjective, negligent, or irresponsible in leading and directing the outbreak and spread of the epidemic in the management area," Mr. Tiep emphasized.

Communes and wards with outbreaks need to urgently complete the Commune-level animal disease prevention and control Steering Committee; mobilize legal resources to completely handle outbreaks as soon as they are discovered, not allowing them to break out and spread widely.
In case the epidemic is complicated and tends to spread quickly on a large scale, the Chairman of the People's Committee at the commune level shall consider and announce the epidemic according to regulations.
The Vice Chairman of the Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee requested localities to strictly handle cases of concealing and slow reporting that cause the spread of the epidemic. Establish working groups to continuously patrol and monitor, promptly detect and strictly handle the acts of buying, selling, transporting sick pigs and throwing dead pigs into the environment.

Previously, the People's Committees of Quy Nhon Tay Ward and Hoai Nhon Bac Ward administratively fined 2 drivers transporting a total of 68 pigs infected with African swine fever when traveling through the area, and at the same time destroyed all of these pigs.
As Lao Dong has reported, since the end of June, the Van Phong irrigation canal system through Binh An, Binh Hiep, Hoa Hoi communes... has been seriously polluted due to dead pigs being thrown down. Many remains are in the process of decomposing, expanding, giving off a strong stench and getting stuck at the discharge gates, seriously affecting the environment and people's lives.
Recently, on the morning of August 4, people in Phu An and Phu Xuan villages (Tay Son commune) discovered many sacks containing pig carcasses in the Dong Xiem bridge embankment area. Some pork parts were exposed, many of the bodies were decomposed, giving off a strong stench.
Receiving the feedback, the Commune People's Committee sent officers to check and determined that there were 6 sacks containing pig carcasses. The locality has sprayed disinfectants and mobilized cranes to bury all the pigs.
