On the afternoon of June 30, Mr. Nguyen Khac Toan - Chairman of Hue City People's Committee and the working delegation visited, inspected and encouraged the forces performing the task of taking samples of remains of unidentified martyrs for DNA testing at Phu Vang Commune Martyrs' Cemetery.
According to reports, Phu Vang commune Martyrs' Cemetery currently has 1,595 unidentified martyrs' graves, which is the locality with the largest number of graves requiring biological samples for DNA testing in Hue City.
Implementing the "Operation of 500 days and nights to promote the search, repatriation and identification of martyrs' remains" and the plan of Hue City People's Committee, Hue City Military Command has coordinated with the Phu Vang commune government to establish working groups to take biological samples for all the graves above.
From June 25 to now, working groups have exhumed 141 graves and collected 53 biological samples to serve DNA testing, contributing to identifying and returning names to the martyrs.
According to the Hue City Military Command, the sampling process was carried out in accordance with technical procedures, ensuring accuracy, tightness, and solemnity. The forces also made efforts to overcome hot weather conditions to accelerate the progress of task implementation.
At the inspection, Chairman of Hue City People's Committee Nguyen Khac Toan acknowledged and praised the spirit of responsibility and efforts of officers, soldiers and forces participating in task implementation.
He emphasized that taking martyrs' remains samples for DNA testing is a particularly important task, contributing to identifying the names of martyrs, meeting the aspirations of relatives and families, and at the same time expressing the morality of "When drinking water, remember the source", "Gratitude" of the nation.
Chairman of Hue City People's Committee requested the forces to continue to promote the spirit of responsibility, overcome weather difficulties, implement technical procedures correctly, and at the same time accelerate the sampling progress, striving to successfully complete the assigned tasks.
