Mountainous digital transformation, seen from remote electricity meters

Nguyễn Tùng |

Tuyen Quang - Remote electricity meters are just a part of the digital transformation of the electricity industry, but in mountainous areas they have brought practical benefits to people.

For many years now, the work of Mr. Hoang Thanh Binh, Captain of the Ham Yen Electricity Service Business Team (Tuyen Quang) has been much faster because the recording of electricity numbers is no longer done manually as before.

"Replacing conventional meters with remote electronic meters has helped reduce the number of workers reading meter readings, ensuring accuracy in recording electricity consumption and creating electricity bills for customers, minimizing errors due to human error," said Mr. Binh.

Not only for the electricity industry, but also for the people themselves, they are the beneficiaries of this digital transformation. Remote electronic meters update daily and hourly electricity consumption data to the system and people can see their electricity consumption level to make appropriate adjustments.

Ms. Nong Thi To in the mountainous district of Na Hang (Tuyen Quang) said that before, when there was a paper bill, she could know her electricity bill and monthly electricity consumption. Now, every day, she just needs to go through the electricity company's application on her phone to know.

"It's much more convenient. I set a goal of only using this much electricity each month, so being able to monitor my family's daily electricity consumption on my phone helps me adjust. That saves me a lot of money on electricity," Ms. To shared.

According to Tuyen Quang Electricity Company, this unit is currently managing more than 283 thousand customers. Of which, the number of customers installed with remote electronic meters is over 221 thousand, more than 78%, most of which are in remote areas with many difficulties.

Based on a modern information database platform, electricity customers in the mountainous province of Tuyen Quang can now look up their daily electricity consumption on their smartphones through the customer care software of the Northern Power Corporation.

Informing reporters, Mr. Nguyen Phu Phuong - Deputy Director of Tuyen Quang Power Company said that the Company has currently put 7/7 110kV substations into unmanned mode. From the remote control center, it is possible to monitor and supervise operating modes, perform on/off control, and change the operating mode of equipment at the substations.

In the long term, the smart grid system will reduce the pressure on investment capital for the electricity industry by improving operational efficiency, reducing power loss, saving electricity, and reducing direct labor. Ensuring stable power supply to customers.

“Developing a smart grid is an inevitable trend of the 4.0 technology era. In the coming time, we will continue to promote the automation of the distribution grid, expand and effectively exploit the medium-voltage grid automation system," said Mr. Phuong.
