From 10:00 AM on February 17 (ie, the 1st day of the Lunar New Year Binh Ngo 2026), traffic police (CSGT) nationwide simultaneously launched operations to inspect and handle alcohol concentration violations, in order to ensure traffic order and safety during the Tet holiday and early year festivals.
According to a representative of the Traffic Police Department (Ministry of Public Security), based on the Tet holiday schedule of workers from February 14 to the end of February 22, 2026, the national traffic police force is on 100% duty, deploying peak periods to ensure traffic order and safety lasting before and after the holiday. The goal is to prevent accidents, limit congestion and strictly handle violations that are direct causes of traffic accidents.
In addition to alcohol concentration checks, functional forces focus on handling acts such as using drugs while driving; speeding; going in the wrong lane, changing direction without signal; carrying overloaded, oversized, and extended truck beds. Violations in transport business activities such as picking up and dropping off passengers in violation of regulations; carrying more people than allowed; going against traffic, reversing on highways; handing over vehicles to people who do not meet the conditions to operate vehicles are also strengthened control.

In addition, acts of gathering, illegal racing, swerving, zigzagging, and resisting persons on duty will be strictly handled according to the provisions of law.
In Hanoi, implementing the direction of the Traffic Police Department (under the Ministry of Public Security), traffic police teams under the Hanoi City Police have deployed forces on many key roads and traffic junctions. Inspection activities are implemented with the spirit of "not being considerate of Tet, not letting violations slip through", resolutely strictly handling violations of traffic order and safety, ensuring safety for people to enjoy spring and celebrate Tet.
According to reporters' records, at checkpoints, functional forces used specialized equipment to measure alcohol concentration, combined with propaganda and reminding people to comply with regulations when participating in traffic. In the Le Thai To - Trang Thi intersection area, the working group of Traffic Police Team No. 1 established mobile checkpoints, randomly stopping vehicles passing by. In a short time, many violations were detected and recorded for handling. Most of the violations admitted to being subjective, "first of the year enjoying spring, drinking a few cups of wine to wish Tet" and then driving vehicles.
For example, a man driving a motorbike without a helmet, when asked to check, was found to have an alcohol concentration below 0.25 milligrams/liter of breath. For violations, this person is administratively sanctioned and the vehicle is temporarily seized according to regulations.
According to Lieutenant Colonel Dao Viet Long - Deputy Head of the Traffic Police Department of Hanoi City Police, simultaneous inspection and handling of alcohol concentration violations is a key task in the plan to ensure traffic order and safety during the Binh Ngo Tet and early 2026 festivals. The control work is carried out drastically with the spirit of "no forbidden zones, no exceptions, no Tet abstinence".
The highest goal is not only to punish but also to prevent and reduce traffic accidents caused by alcohol and beer, raise awareness of law compliance, and build a safe and civilized traffic culture," Lieutenant Colonel Dao Viet Long emphasized.
In the coming time, the Traffic Police force of Hanoi City Police will continue to strengthen patrols, inspections, and strictly handle violations, especially violations of alcohol concentration, speed, and not wearing helmets, contributing to maintaining traffic order and safety during the Lunar New Year and the early year festival season.
Functional forces recommend that people absolutely do not use alcohol or beer when driving; proactively choose safe transportation options to ensure safety for themselves and the community.
According to Decree 168/2024/ND-CP of the Government stipulating penalties for administrative violations in the field of road traffic, drivers who violate alcohol concentration will be fined and subject to additional penalties such as deducting points or revoking the right to use a driver's license (GPLX), depending on the severity of the violation.
