For decades, Cua Lo in Thang Loi commune, Mo Duc district has been often filled with sand, causing hundreds of fishing vessels in Thang Loi commune, Mo Duc district and An Phu commune, Quang Ngai city to bet with luck every time they let their vessels go to sea.
According to the reporter, right at Cua Lo, the fishing boat QNg 22528 TS sank half of its body, many machines on the boat were flooded and severely damaged. According to Mr. Dang Xin (45 years old), residing in An Chuan village, Thang Loi commune, this fishing boat ran aground while trying to cross Cua Lo, causing the engine to stall and being washed ashore by waves. Since the beginning of the year, this is the second fishing boat to be severely damaged when entering and leaving Cua Lo.

The situation of Cua Lo being filled has lasted for about 10 years. From April to October every year, Cua Lo is heavily flooded, so large fishing vessels do not enter or exit the gate to anchor. Fishermen really hope that the State will allocate funds to dredge and clear Cua Lo channel so that people no longer have to worry when entering and leaving Cua Lo.
Also according to many experienced fishermen in these two localities, in order to "live together" with the scene of landscape in the landslide, fishermen every time they want to go out to sea must "watch" the country. However, due to the complicated filling, it is only necessary to judge the wrong or deviate from the steering wheel to be stranded, damaged by the wave. Therefore, currently only small capacity ships in and out of this seaport.
Ms. Pham Thi Cong - Chairman of An Phu Commune People's Committee said that the locality has a large number of boats in the province with 1,185 fishing boats and more than 9,480 workers. Since the beginning of the year, a fishing boat in An Phu commune and a fishing boat in Thang Loi commune have ran aground while moving through Cua Lo, causing the boat to stall. Not only Cua Lo but Cua Dai (An Phu commune) is also often flooded, making it very difficult for fishermen to enter and exit the estuary.

Talking to reporters, Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Tuong - Chairman of the People's Committee of Thang Loi commune said that the whole commune has about 200 fishing vessels exploiting seafood with a total capacity of over 4,000 horsepower.
Almost every summer, Cua Lo has cases of ships getting stranded, leading to damage to machinery. This situation makes it difficult for hundreds of fishing vessels of local fishermen to go offshore and stick to the sea.
According to Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Tuong, in 2018, the authorities deployed sand dredging in Cua Lo but with a large volume. However, about 2 years later, the landslide continued to be filled. Because of the limited local budget, the commune mobilized the fishermen to dredge themselves. The commune and district also proposed the province to have a dredging plan. "Recently, the province has also directed the Department of Agriculture and the environment to study the feasibility of dredging the volume of sand in Cua Lo, but there are many different opinions, so it has not been dredged" - Mr. Tuong informed.
