The Ho Chi Minh City - Moc Bai Expressway project is the largest of the four projects, with a total investment of up to VND20,000 billion, under the BOT (build - operate - transfer) form.
This route will be nearly 51km long, starting from the intersection with Ring Road 3 in Cu Chi district and ending at National Highway 22 in Ben Cau district, Tay Ninh.
The expressway section through Ho Chi Minh City is more than 24km long, affecting more than 1,800 households in 11 communes of Cu Chi district, with compensation costs of more than 7,100 billion VND.
Site clearance will begin in April 2025, and the project is expected to be completed by the end of 2027.
Once operational, this expressway will reduce the load on National Highway 22 and enhance connectivity with Cambodia, facilitating inter-regional traffic and economy.
National Highway 22 is the only national highway connecting Ho Chi Minh City with Moc Bai international border gate (Tay Ninh). However, currently, this route only has 2 car lanes and 1 motorbike lane on each side, causing traffic congestion and serious accidents.
The National Highway 22 expansion project (from An Suong intersection to Ring Road 3) will upgrade the road to 60m, meeting the traffic needs of 8 lanes, and at the same time build more overpasses at important intersections.
The total investment of this project is 7,100 billion VND, of which 2,409 billion VND will be used for compensation for site clearance. The project is expected to start in 2025 and be completed in 2028.
Truong Chinh - Cong Hoa route is a vital traffic route connecting Districts 12, Tan Binh, Tan Phu and Hoc Mon with the center of Ho Chi Minh City and Tan Son Nhat airport. However, traffic jams often occur here because the capacity of the route has exceeded its design.
To solve this problem, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport has proposed building an 11.2 km long elevated road with 4 lanes, starting from An Suong intersection to Tan Son Nhat airport area.
The project is being implemented under the public-private partnership (PPP) model, with a total investment of nearly VND12,000 billion, of which 50% will come from the state budget.
The elevated route mainly uses the median strip between Truong Chinh and Cong Hoa streets, helping to reduce site clearance costs.
If approved, the project would be completed in 2028, helping to ease traffic and improve connectivity between regions.
In addition, Truong Chinh Street from An Suong intersection to Cong Hoa Street has 10 lanes, but from Cong Hoa Street to Au Co (more than 700m long), the road surface is narrowed to only 4 lanes, creating a "bottleneck" causing serious traffic jams.
To fix this, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport proposed to widen this road from the current 10-12m to 60m, with a total investment of about 4,500 billion VND.
If approved, the expansion project would be implemented from 2024 to 2028.
