On December 23, the Son Tra - Ngu Hanh Son Inter-District Forest Protection Department (Da Nang City) announced that the unit had received a pig-tailed macaque caught in a trap on Son Tra Mountain (Son Tra District).
The monkey was found in distress in the Suoi Da area, its front leg caught in a trap. Forest rangers and animal rescue volunteers tried to approach it, but because the monkey was unfamiliar with humans and did not have specialized rescue equipment for humans, the process was difficult.
Volunteers and veterinarians used a new method of anesthesia to access and rescue the monkey. At the time of rescue, three fingers on the monkey's front limb showed signs of necrosis.
"The monkey has been untrapped and handed over to relevant units for medical care before being released back into the forest," said the leader of the Son Tra - Ngu Hanh Son Inter-District Forest Protection Department.
Previously, this monkey was discovered trapped on December 15. After many days of monitoring and approaching, the monkey was rescued on the morning of December 23. The Son Tra - Ngu Hanh Son Inter-District Forest Protection Department determined that the monkey was not endemic to the Son Tra peninsula, and that it was probably raised and released into the wild by someone. After a long time, the monkey followed the golden monkey troop to find food and then got trapped.
