According to the leader of Tam Nong District People's Committee, some people swam after falling into the river and were rescued by authorities.
Previously, speaking with a reporter from Lao Dong Newspaper, a representative of the People's Committee of Phung Nguyen Commune, Lam Thao District confirmed that there had just been an incident of the collapse of two abutments of Phong Chau Bridge connecting Tam Nong and Lam Thao districts.
At 10:02 a.m., the Red River water level was very high, flowing rapidly, and there were vehicles on the bridge. However, the damage has not been estimated yet.
By noon, the area around the road leading to the bridge was crowded with people and vehicles. Authorities were also present early to make lane separations and other professional tasks.
Chairman of Phu Tho Provincial People's Committee Bui Van Quang and leaders of the provincial police were present at the scene. The functional forces deployed measures to overcome the consequences of the bridge collapse.
