The People's Committee of Da Nang City said that this locality has submitted a document to the Ministry of Planning and Investment for appraisal and submission to the Prime Minister for approval of the Project to establish a Free Trade Zone.
However, Da Nang has not announced the specific location of the sea encroachment area. It is researching and comprehensively evaluating to determine the direction and roadmap for investment and construction.
According to Mr. Tran Chi Cuong, Vice Chairman of the Da Nang People's Committee, the free trade zone, when its infrastructure is completed and its functional areas are synchronized, will cover about 300 hectares of land reclaimed from the sea. This is also the first time that Da Nang has been selected to determine investment in a free trade zone during a five-year pilot period. After studying and perfecting the policy mechanisms, it can be deployed more widely in other localities such as Ba Ria - Vung Tau, Hai Phong, Ho Chi Minh City, etc.
"The project to establish a free trade zone is seeking the Central Government's approval. Only when the Prime Minister approves will research be allowed to form a sea encroachment zone. There must be a policy first, then research, inviting experts, scientific seminars and many other issues. Whether it can be formed or not is also a problem," said Mr. Tran Chi Cuong.
According to Mr. Tran Chi Cuong, the sea encroachment area will not be formed in the five-year pilot period. It may be in the period of 2035 - 2040, when the city has met all the scientific and technical conditions. The spirit of Da Nang is very determined, after the pilot is finished, it must be completed and successful with the free trade zone. That process will have a preliminary assessment of each stage to make adjustments.
"Da Nang's viewpoint is that in the immediate future, any locations that can be done quickly will be cleared quickly, linked with Lien Chieu seaport and the airport to form three main sub-zones in the free trade zone. These are the sub-zones of goods production, logistics and trade - services, to form infrastructure, calling for strategic investors," said the Vice Chairman of the Da Nang People's Committee.
