Speaking to Lao Dong Newspaper reporters on January 9, Mr. Nguyen Truc Son - Permanent Vice Chairman of Ben Tre Provincial People's Committee - said that the construction package of Ben Tre Provincial General Hospital project started construction on December 28, 2024, and is expected to be completed in 18 months (June 2026). Ben Tre Provincial People's Committee has assigned the Ben Tre Provincial Civil and Industrial Construction Investment Project Management Board to represent the project investor, responsible for coordinating with consulting and construction units to develop a master plan, as well as detailed construction progress for each item of the package according to the signed contract.
At the same time, the Ben Tre Provincial People's Committee will direct the establishment of a working group to urge, inspect, supervise and promptly handle issues arising during the construction process, to ensure that the project is implemented on schedule, meeting quality, technical and aesthetic requirements. In addition, the investor also requires relevant units to work with a spirit of urgency, clear progress, ensuring requirements and achieving the best results.
“At the beginning of 2025, the Ben Tre Provincial People's Committee directed the investor's representative to closely coordinate with relevant departments and branches to prepare bidding documents and send them to Korea Eximbank for comments. At the same time, prepare, appraise and approve the medical equipment estimate. In early 2026, this bid package must complete the selection of contractors, supply and installation of equipment in sync with the hospital construction progress, meeting the deadline specified in the Loan Agreement,” Mr. Son informed.
Mr. Son added that the Provincial People's Committee is assigning specialized agencies to propose the establishment of an interdisciplinary technical council to review the list, quantity, and technical specifications of medical equipment, ensuring that it is suitable for the needs of use, technology for medical treatment, as well as the instructions in the Loan Agreement and Vietnamese laws.
“The goal of phase 1 is to build a new Provincial General Hospital with 500 beds, meeting grade II standards with a system of modern, synchronous medical equipment, best meeting the needs of medical examination, treatment and health care of Ben Tre province people.
Currently, Nguyen Dinh Chieu General Hospital (1,400 beds, currently overloaded - PV) will be restructured and rearranged to make effective use of existing facilities. At the same time, the entire system of the province's leading general hospitals will be rearranged to serve the needs of specialized medical examination and treatment, as well as aiming to provide high-tech medical services to the people" - Mr. Son shared.
Previously in 2015, the People's Committee of Ben Tre province issued Decision No. 1594 approving the content of the investment project document for the construction of Ben Tre General Hospital using preferential loans from the Korean Government. The project has a total investment of more than 1,658 billion VND, of which the preferential credit loan to support development of the Korean Government is more than 1,331 billion VND. The project is located in Binh Phu commune (Ben Tre city, Ben Tre province). The Prime Minister has approved this project to extend the loan agreement disbursement period to December 31, 2026.
