Relocating people, dredging rivers and canals to prevent disasters and floods in Gia Lai

Gia Lai - The 2026 flood season is approaching, Gia Lai province urgently dredges rivers and streams, and relocates people for resettlement according to plan.

On August 18, the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Gia Lai province said that the unit and communes are focusing on coordinating to implement the flood drainage plan downstream of the Ha Thanh River.

The construction unit will dredge, clear, handle flow bottlenecks, hand over land, clear violations of dyke corridors and flood drainage corridors. Communes prevent new violations, prevent re-encroachment on flood drainage corridors.

Gia Lai province also requested that for 16 projects to arrange and stabilize people in emergency disaster areas, organize rolling construction, and start housing construction as soon as land is allocated.

The province will relocate people from dangerous areas before October 31, 2026, and complete the handover of 100% of houses before November 30, 2020.

According to assessments, the resistance of houses, public works and essential infrastructure to strong storms and extreme floods is still limited, clearly revealed through storm No. 13. Especially there are many rudimentary houses in riverside and coastal areas...

Therefore, in 2026, the provincial government requests a strong shift from response to proactive prevention and management of natural disaster risks. The highest goal is to protect the lives and health of the people; not to let casualties occur due to subjectivity, slow warning, slow evacuation or irresponsibility.

Striving before the peak of the rainy and storm season, 100% of households in dangerous areas are identified, listed and have specific evacuation plans according to each level of risk.
