On July 27, information from Huong Phung Border Guard Station (Quang Tri Provincial Border Guard) said that the unit is verifying important information about the location of a martyr's grave located in Laos, about 6.2 km from landmark 594.
The information provider, Mr. Ho Van Moi (born in 1961, residing in Xa Dun village, Xa Dun Phuong cluster, Se Pon district, Savannakhet province, Laos) said that the grave is located right on the land area of his family's field at coordinates N 16°47'7''; E 106°30'52''.
According to Mr. Ho Van Moi, this area used to have 8 graves of Truong Son soldiers buried along the stream slope. In previous searches, functional forces have collected 7 remains, and currently there is still 1 female martyr's grave that has not been exhumed.
Mr. Moi affirmed that around 1972 - 1973, he himself witnessed the burial of a female Vietnamese soldier with long black hair. At the first exhumation, because the martyr's body was not completely decomposed, functional forces moved and reburied it about 2 meters away from the old location.
However, around 1997 - 1998, a large rock (about 1.5 - 2 meters in diameter) suddenly fell from the mountain, filling the exact location of the tomb, causing the search and repatriation work to encounter many difficulties and be interrupted.
Immediately after receiving information from people in neighboring countries, Huong Phung Border Guard Station instructed Mr. Ho Van Moi to record images, take photos of the scene, determine detailed coordinates; and at the same time requested the family to continue to coordinate and provide relevant clues.
Currently, Huong Phung Border Guard Station has reported to the Border Guard Command of Quang Tri province and the Political Department to coordinate with specialized agencies to urgently collect and verify information, and develop a plan to survey the scene in order to soon exhume and bring the female martyr back to her motherland.
