The project to renovate and upgrade the road from Lang Giang bridge to National Highway 70 in the old Bao Thang district is one of the key traffic projects of Lao Cai province.
The route has a total investment of more than 236 billion VND, a length of 13.25km, starting point at Luot intersection (Thai Nien commune), ending point at Km106+200, Provincial Road 154 (Phong Nien commune).
According to the design, the route meets the standard of a level IV mountain road with a roadbed width of 7.5m and a road surface width of 5.5m. On the route, there is Coc Sam bridge 15m long and 9m wide.

Recorded on February 23, when moving along Provincial Road 161 from the Lang Giang bridge area to the Luot village intersection (Xuan Quang commune), the appearance of the hundred-billion road has clearly shown the shape between the green hills on both sides. Most of the road surface has been asphalted, and vehicles can circulate smoothly.
The joyful atmosphere is clearly visible on the faces of many local people as the road is gradually being completed.

Mr. Duong Van Duc (resident of Xuan Quang commune) said that the road has been under construction for several years and now the road surface is basically completed, so travel is more convenient than before. People hope that the investor and contractor will soon complete the remaining items to ensure traffic safety.
According to research, the project is constructed by the Joint Venture of Cao Minh Construction Co., Ltd. and Lao Cai Construction and Inspection Joint Stock Company. The project started in 2021 and is expected to be completed in 2026.
Representatives of the Lao Cai Provincial Traffic Construction Investment Project Management Board said that the progress of the entire project is currently over 90%. The implementation process was interrupted at times due to site clearance problems and the impact of rainy and windy weather.

Some short sections still facing site clearance and resettlement are being coordinated by relevant units to remove obstacles.
Talking to reporters, Mr. Pham Minh Hai - Deputy Director of the Lao Cai Provincial Traffic Construction Investment Project Management Board - said that the project is slightly behind schedule due to weather and site factors. However, the project is almost completed and the investor is carrying out procedures to prepare for handover.
According to the plan, the units strive to complete site clearance work in the second quarter to close the entire route.

When put into use, the road will form a connecting axis between Provincial Road 161 and National Highway 70, contributing to shortening travel time, expanding development space and promoting trade for Lao Cai province.
