The team taking DNA samples of martyrs' remains overcomes bad weather, speeding up progress

An Giang - Tri Ton Martyrs' Cemetery is one of the key areas of the province to take martyrs' remains samples for DNA testing.

On the morning of July 31, Colonel Cao Minh Tam, Deputy Political Commissar of the Military Command (CHQS) of An Giang province, member of the Provincial Steering Committee 515, visited and encouraged officials, staff and forces performing the task of taking samples of martyrs' remains for DNA testing at Tri Ton Martyrs' Cemetery, Tri Ton commune.

This is one of the key areas of the province in implementing the 500-day and night campaign to promote the search, repatriation and identification of martyrs' remains.

At Tri Ton Martyrs' Cemetery, Colonel Cao Minh Tam directly inspected the actual excavation process, collected biological samples of martyrs' remains; monitored the stages from determining the location of the grave, opening the grave, selecting bone samples, preserving, sealing and completing dossiers according to professional procedures. At the same time, he cordially inquired and encouraged officials and staff directly on duty, sharing the difficulties caused by rainy weather conditions, many graves have been reburied many times, affecting the search and collection of samples.

After listening to the working team commander's report, by July 30, the sample collection team had deployed at 470/593 graves subject to sample collection, successfully collecting 330 samples of martyrs' remains. There are 140 graves that have not been sampled, of which 114 graves no longer have remains, 26 graves are only with humus and broken bones that do not meet the conditions for sample collection. Currently, 123 graves will continue to be deployed in the near future to complete the set plan.

Although construction conditions face many difficulties due to unfavorable weather and the current state of many graves no longer intact, the working team still strictly maintains technical procedures, ensuring scientific and accurateness in each sampling stage, while maintaining solemnity and reverence for heroic martyrs.

On behalf of the 515th Provincial Steering Committee, An Giang Provincial Military Command, Colonel Cao Minh Tam acknowledged and praised the spirit of responsibility and dedication of the sampling team and coordinating forces. The comrade emphasized that the collection of DNA samples of martyrs' remains is a task of profound political and humanistic significance, contributing to gradually identifying the identities of martyrs whose information has not been identified, meeting the aspirations of relatives and families of martyrs, and at the same time expressing the morality of "Drinking water, remembering the source", "Gratitude" of the nation.

The comrade requested the working team to continue to promote the spirit of responsibility, closely coordinate with local Party committees, authorities and relevant forces, overcome difficulties caused by weather, strictly implement technical procedures, ensure absolute safety during the sampling process; strive to complete the collection of samples at the remaining 123 graves on schedule, contributing to the successful implementation of the 500-day and night campaign and completing the tasks assigned by the Steering Committee 515 of An Giang province.
