UAV attacks US liquefied gas tanker in Egyptian port

Two gas reprocessing ships and one gas tanker were attacked by unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) at an Egyptian port.

The Egyptian Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources announced on July 29 about a fire that occurred on a gas reprocessing ship and a gas tanker at Damietta port on the Mediterranean coast, Xinhua News Agency reported. The incident was controlled immediately and caused no casualties.

Minister of Oil and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi has arrived at the scene to monitor the situation and monitor control and safety assurance activities.

According to a statement from the Egyptian Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, emergency rescue teams and relevant technical agencies are taking necessary measures according to approved standards. Procedures are underway to assess the consequences of the incident.

The ministry called on the media and social network users to rely on the ministry's official statements to know the information and affirmed that the ministry will notify when there are further developments.

According to Ambrey, a British maritime security company, initial assessments show that drones attacked a US-owned gas tanker at the port of Damietta in Egypt.

It is not yet clear who is responsible for this attack.

If confirmed, an attack by Iran or its allies would mark a significant escalation of the conflict in the Middle East.

US President Donald Trump said he had received a report on the incident.
