DT 748 expansion project: Unremoved power grid, construction potentially risks accidents

Ho Chi Minh City - The project to upgrade and expand DT 748 road in Ho Chi Minh City is being implemented, and the construction process has many potential risk points for accidents.

On July 4, units are urgently constructing the project to upgrade and expand DT 748 road phase 1 (from Ring Road 4 intersection in Ho Chi Minh City to An Dien intersection, Long Nguyen ward, Ho Chi Minh City).

Regarding site clearance, currently most individuals and organizations on both sides of the road have received compensation money and handed over land. However, the power grid infrastructure running along the road (direction from An Dien roundabout to Ring Road 4 HCMC) has not been relocated. This is a bottleneck that greatly affects the progress of this project.

Regarding construction, the project has not yet completed the installation of drainage culverts. Both sides are being compacted, poured with stone to make the roadbed and sidewalk.

Road surface construction is also affected when power poles have not been relocated.

In addition, when constructing the road, some deep water pits appeared right on the edge of the road for vehicles to move. However, warning signs and ropes are very rudimentary.

The construction of the road also affects the travel of households on both sides. Some households in Group 7, An My neighborhood, Long Nguyen ward are blocked from entering their houses. Besides, some households have ponds appearing right in front of their houses. This also poses potential safety risks for local people.

When it rains, it's muddy, when it's sunny, it's dusty. Many places with water stagnation pose dangerous risks for people traveling through here. Besides, it can be dangerous for the elderly and young children on both sides of the road. The road to the house is also very difficult. The people's wish is for the construction unit to carefully fence off the deep water pockets. At the same time, speed up the project construction progress" - Ms. N.T. A (52 years old, resident of Long Nguyen ward) expressed her wish.

Talking to reporters, a representative of the construction unit said that they will review the waterlogged sections that affect people's walkways and fix them immediately. At the same time, they will arrange additional ropes, warning signs, and guide people to circulate.

The electricity unit also said that it will coordinate with the local authorities to review and will provide information later.

According to the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, the above project was started in August 2025. The project was approved with a total investment of 3,143 billion VND. Of which, construction costs are about 463 billion VND, site clearance costs are about 2,284 billion VND...

Phase 1 is invested from the Ring Road 4 intersection in Ho Chi Minh City to the An Dien intersection with a length of about 5 km. Road cross-section scale of 38m, construction of 6 lanes. Ong Ky bridge section is built with 1 bridge span, nearly 26m long, 38m wide. This road section will invest in building a complete drainage system and green lighting.
