Ms. Ngo Thi Tuyen was born in 1946, from Nam Ngan ward, Thanh Hoa town, now Ham Rong ward, Thanh Hoa province. During the anti-American resistance war, she participated in the militia and self-defense forces of Nam Ngan sub-region, fighting to protect Ham Rong bridge.
When the war escalated and attacked the North, the US Air Force focused on attacking the Ham Rong area. In particular, in April 1965, many groups of US aircraft continuously fiercely bombed the Nam Ngan - Ham Rong area.
At that time, female militia soldier Ngo Thi Tuyen directly participated in the fight and was injured with a disability rate of 44%. When the convoy carrying ammunition from Thanh Hoa town came to supply the battlefields on the North bank, Ms. Ngo Thi Tuyen, at that time weighing only 42kg, carried 2 boxes of ammunition attached together, weighing 98kg, and brought them down to the ship.
During the arduous battle, the army and people of Ham Rong - Nam Ngan shot down 47 US aircraft, captured many pilots alive, and protected the safety of Ham Rong bridge.
With outstanding achievements in combat, Ms. Ngo Thi Tuyen was awarded 2 Third-class Military Exploit Orders, was awarded the President Ho Chi Minh's Badge and received 6 certificates of merit and certificates of commendation.
On January 1, 1967, she was awarded the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces by the State.
