The Dung Quat Vocational College of Economics and Technology project in Chanh Lo Ward, Quang Ngai City was granted an Investment Certificate in September 2011, with Dung Quat Vocational College of Economics and Technology (now Dung Quat Vocational College of Economics and Technology) as the investor. The project has an investment capital of 400 billion VND, with a usable area of over 37,000m2.
The project is divided into 2 construction phases. According to the initial commitment, phase 1 was completed in 2012 and phase 2 in 2015. However, during the implementation process, the project was behind schedule, so after considering the difficulties and obstacles, the Provincial People's Committee allowed the investor to adjust the project implementation progress, phase 1 was completed in 2016 and phase 2 in 2017.
However, more than ten years after the start of construction, the project has not yet been completed. According to the reporter of Lao Dong Newspaper, the project is located in a prime location but is currently overgrown with grass. Many items are unfinished and then stopped, the steel is rusty, the concrete blocks are crumbling. The 3-storey building alone has been completed but is still abandoned.
On October 22, 2019, the Provincial People's Committee issued Decision No. 809 on extending the land use progress by 24 months for Dung Quat Vocational College of Economics and Technology to implement the project.
Up to now, the School has leveled over 95% of the area; completed and put into use a number of construction items and is completing a number of other items. However, due to the outbreak and prolongation of the Covid-19 pandemic at the end of 2019, experts, investors and contractors have not had the conditions to access the project, affecting the progress of the project.
Speaking to Lao Dong Newspaper reporter, Mr. Nguyen Duc Trung - Acting Director of the Department of Natural Resources and Environment of Quang Ngai province said that the Dung Quat College of Economics and Technology project was extended by the province for another 24 months. It is still within the deadline.
