On the afternoon of June 20, the meteorological agency warned that thunderstorms are developing strongly in many localities in the South, including Ho Chi Minh City, causing showers with thunderstorms and lightning.
According to monitoring from satellite cloud images, weather radar and lightning positioning systems, thunderstorms are developing in many areas of Ca Mau, An Giang, Dong Thap, Vinh Long, Dong Nai, Can Tho and Ho Chi Minh City. In Ho Chi Minh City, thunderstorms appear in the areas of Binh My, Phu Hoa Dong, Phuoc Hoa, An Long, Bau Bang and Thu Dau Mot.
In the next 0-3 hours, thunderstorms will continue to develop, causing showers with thunderstorms and lightning in the above areas, then tend to expand to neighboring areas. Common rainfall is from 5-10 mm, in some places over 15 mm. People need to be wary of dangerous weather phenomena such as tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong gusts of wind at level 5-8.
Regarding weather patterns in the next 24-48 hours, a low pressure trough with axis from 24-27 degrees North latitude connected to the hot low pressure area to the West continues to develop and expand to the Southeast.
The Southwest monsoon maintains weak to moderate intensity. Above, the subtropical high pressure with its axis passing through the South Central Coast continues to gently encroach westward before stabilizing.
Forecast from now until about 10 days, the low pressure trough will still maintain a trend of development and expansion. From June 25, this pattern is likely to be compressed and gradually move southward. Meanwhile, the Southwest monsoon is operating at a weak to moderate level and tends to gradually strengthen from June 23.
Above, the subtropical high pressure through the South Central region operates stably, then raises its axis to the North, weakens and gradually recedes to the East from around June 22. Notably, from June 23, there is a possibility of forming a low pressure trough passing through the South East Sea area. This configuration is forecast to slowly raise its axis to the North and affect the weather in the South.
Due to the impact of the above weather patterns, in the next 2-3 days, the Southern region will continue to experience scattered showers and thunderstorms, with common rainfall from 10-30 mm. Some places may experience heavy rain with rainfall over 70 mm, mainly concentrated in the late afternoon and at night. People need to monitor forecast bulletins, and proactively prevent localized flooding, lightning and strong gusts of wind during thunderstorms.
