On February 16, the People's Committee of Thanh Hoa province said it had submitted a document to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism requesting an appraisal of the project to preserve and reinforce the Hon Vong Phu relic. This relic is located in the An Hoach Mountain Relic and Scenic Landscape Complex (Nhoai Mountain), An Hung Ward, Thanh Hoa City.

According to the Provincial People's Committee, Hon Vong Phu is made from limestone, which has been phong hoa and cracked for a long time. The survey results show that there are ruins, reefs and many large cracks on the surface in this area, proving that the phong hoa process is taking place strongly.
The relic has also been hit by lightning twice and was affected by the mining and blasting activities around, causing vibrations that caused the cracks to widen. Therefore, just small impacts such as heavy rain, strong winds, earthquakes or blasts can seriously affect the safety of the relic, even leading to the risk of collapse.
The reinforcement project aims to ensure the sustainability of Hon Vong Phu by using technical solutions to increase stiffness, stability and resist the impact of weather and the surrounding environment. According to the submission of the Provincial People's Committee, the project implementation cost is 17 billion VND from the provincial budget, expected to be completed before April 30, 2025.
Previously, Lao Dong Newspaper reported on the risk of collapse of Hon Vong Phu after being repeatedly hit by lightning. The most recent time was on June 15, 2022, when a large rock mass collapsed.
To find a conservation solution, at the end of 2023, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Thanh Hoa organized a scientific conference and consulted with experts and scientists. By May 2024, the People's Committee of Thanh Hoa City had built a lightning protection system with a total cost of more than 800 million VND right next to the relic.
