In order to ensure the best conditions for the 2025 - 2026 school year, since the beginning of August, schools in the border communes of Gia Lai province have urgently prepared with a proactive, creative and responsible spirit.
At Phu Dong Primary and Secondary School ( Iautch commune) - where there are 728 students, nearly 69% of whom are ethnic minorities, teachers have cleaned the campus, trimmed trees, cleaned tables and chairs, arranged textbooks and school supplies.
The school arranges a classroom for each class, ensuring 2 teaching sessions/day; reviewing facilities to propose additional purchases. The school coordinates with the government, unions, and villages to grasp the number of students of all ages, especially ethnic minority students, thereby maintaining 100% of the number of students.
"If I live 15-20km from school, the teachers will coordinate with the family to take them to class," said Principal Phan Thanh Tien.
At Luong The Vinh Primary and Secondary School ( Ia Pon Commune), in addition to preparing facilities and encouraging students to go to class at the right age, the school also coordinates with medical units, health care agencies, giving textbooks and school bags to disadvantaged students.
According to statistics, there are currently 9,419 students in 7 border communes of the province, nearly 55% of whom are ethnic minorities. The communes have 21 schools at all levels of education, but most of them do not have boarding or semi-boarding functions, making it difficult for students, especially in remote areas, to go to class.
Gia Lai has 7 border communes bordering Cambodia that have not merged administrative units, including: Ia O Commune, Ia Tach, Ia Chia, Ia Dom, Ia Mo, Ia Pon, Ia Nan. Mr. Nguyen Dinh Tien - Vice Chairman of Ia Dom Commune People's Committee - said that Conclusion 81-TB/TW dated July 18, 2025 of the Politburo on building boarding and semi-boarding schools for students in border areas has made people and parents very happy and excited.
Leaders of border communes requested the Department of Construction to advise the Provincial People's Committee to adjust the planning and allocate land funds for school construction to ensure technical infrastructure such as electricity, clean water, transportation, etc. Thereby, creating a comprehensive development environment for students, associated with on-site human resource training, serving local development in disadvantaged areas.
Mr. Pham Anh Tuan - Chairman of Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee - emphasized that communes need to study the overall planning, survey the current status of schools to propose appropriate investment options. The planning does not stop at classrooms but must also include dining areas and playgrounds for students, ensuring safety and sustainability criteria, in accordance with conditions for preventing natural disasters such as landslides and flash floods.
The implementation viewpoint is that schools must meet standards, organize teaching and learning 2 sessions/day, ensuring that students have free lunch at school.
According to the Department of Education and Training of Gia Lai province, border communes currently have 10,323 students, of which about 7,134 students have the need to study as boarding students and semi-boarding students. The entire area still lacks 406 items, classrooms need to be added. The total demand for capital to invest in facilities for boarding and semi-boarding students is estimated at more than 378 billion VND, with recommendations for using the central budget.
