On January 27th, Saigon Zoo and Botanical Gardens said that staff checked poultry pens at 6 am yesterday (January 26th), discovering that a hen swan shared a herd of mackerel in a pens area of hundreds of square meters.
Immediately after receiving the information, the unit conducted a review, extracted images from security cameras and reported the incident to the functional agency of Saigon ward.
The investigation process quickly identified the suspicious subject. Functional forces proceeded to track down to Duc Hoa commune, Tay Ninh province and arrested the suspect there. Through interrogation, the subject admitted to selling the swan to a person in Can Tho City.
On the night of January 26, a working group including functional agencies and veterinarians immediately moved to Can Tho City to rescue the swan. This individual is being transported back to Ho Chi Minh City.
Representatives of the Zoo and Botanical Gardens said that after being brought to the unit, this white swallow will be subject to strict quarantine procedures for disease prevention because it had previously been in contact with some other animals in the locality where it was sold.
The white swallow (scientific name Cygnus olor) is a large aquatic bird belonging to the duck family (Anatidae), common in many regions such as Europe, Asia and North America. The highlight of this species is its pure white, soft, smooth fur and fresh orange beak with a black border at the base. In adulthood, males are usually larger in weight and possess black legs, while females have light gray or light yellow legs.
