Reducing greenhouse gas emissions according to circular economy

CÔNG SÁNG |

Quang Binh - In order to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and increase income, the province has implemented circular production measures for the people.

Applying technical advances

In Quang Binh, recently, livestock farming in the direction of circular economy is combining garden - pond - barn - forest models at the same time based on the application of technical advances, applying production processes according to the cycle to create closed loops that have been widely deployed.

From the agricultural policy source, the Agricultural Extension - Fisheries Extension Center of Quang Binh province has supported Mr. Nguyen Van Hoang's family (Vo Ninh commune, Quang Ninh district) to apply and implement a circular livestock farming model.

To apply this model, Mr. Hoang invested in a barn to raise more than 1,700 hybrid chickens and hybrid cows, raise earthworms, dig a pond to raise fish, and plant 2 hectares of VA06 grass.

Mr. Hoang's animal breeds and daily supplementary food are supported by the Quang Binh Province Agricultural and Fisheries Extension Center.

Mr. Hoang said that this circular farming brings practical benefits such as reducing production costs, increasing value, increasing agricultural products, and protecting the environment. In addition, closed-loop production helps develop a sustainable economy.

The closed loop approach of growing grass to raise cows, using cow manure to raise earthworms, using earthworms to feed chickens and fish, then using the manure to fertilize the grass...

From there, the loads from livestock are fed back into production, the output of this process.

Another difference from conventional livestock farming models is that circular livestock farming applies technical measures to organize production in a closed cycle. All waste will be thoroughly used to limit greenhouse gas emissions.

Global trend direction

Information from the People's Committee of Vo Ninh commune said that the local government is creating a legal mechanism to help farms have sufficient land legal procedures to invest in production.

In addition to the initial results, there are still some difficulties in developing a circular economy in Quang Binh. Due to the lack of research staff, the capacity to recycle and reuse waste by-products is still limited.

Enterprises are mainly interested in collecting and reusing main by-products. Agricultural production scale is small and scattered. From here, there needs to be support policies in terms of financial mechanisms and access to resources to encourage the development of a circular economy.

At the same time, encourage sustainable crop-livestock models, climate change adaptation, organic livestock models, and circular economy livestock models.

The Quang Binh Province Agricultural and Fisheries Extension Center said that the garden - pond - barn model is considered the simplest form of circular agriculture, combining crop cultivation with livestock farming, limiting waste, following nature and completely in line with the principles of circular economy.

This is a new direction in line with global development trends, helping to reduce greenhouse gas emissions while increasing economic efficiency for the people themselves.
