At the event on October 29, 2019 at the Royal Society, Professor, Dr. Nguyen Thi Kim Thanh had the opportunity to present a speech on nano plasmonic materials (shaped yellow grains, pillars and stars), " nano materials from laboratories to hospital beds" (Nanomaterials from Bench to Bedside) - according to BBC.
"The Rosalind Franklin Award and Lecture 2019" was presented to outstanding female scientists around the world.
The award includes a silver medal, a £40,000 project support, and a gift of £1,000.
The project of Professor, Dr. Nguyen Thi Kim Thanh is a proposal to organize a scientific summer camp to inspire and motivate 8th grade students, mainly female students, from poor families in London, to choose natural science subjects for the GCSE (level 2 program).
Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Thanh graduated with a major in chemistry from Hanoi National University in 1992, then received an international research scholarship in the Netherlands and the UK, where she received her PhD in 1998.
She is the first Vietnamese professor at UCL, specializing in nano materials at the UCL Nanomaterials Laboratory, located at the Royal Institution and Physics Institute (biophysics), Department of Physics and Astronomics, University College London, UK.
She is still researching with the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology.
The Royal Society's website, the oldest independent academy of science in the UK (since 1660), said that this annual award focuses on outstanding contributions to the STEM (sciences, technology, engineering and Mathematics) thematic group and aims to support female scientists in STEM research.
Ms. Rosalind Franklin (1920-1958) is a British biologist and X-ray crystallologist who has made great contributions to world science.
