Hanoi reclaims land from 422 households to build a bridge worth VND7,302 billion across the Red River

Hanoi plans to reclaim land from 422 households in Thuong Cat ward and Thien Loc commune to build Thuong Cat bridge across the Red River, with a total capital of 7,302 billion VND.

Component project 2, investment in the construction of Thuong Cat bridge and the road at both ends of the bridge, started on October 8, 2025.

The Thuong Cat bridge project includes 3 component projects, including 2 component projects for site clearance (GPMB) in Thuong Cat ward and Thien Loc commune and the component project for investment in the construction of Thuong Cat bridge and the road at both ends of the bridge (component project 2).

Regarding the scale of component project 2, the starting point intersects with Ky Vu street, Thuong Cat ward, the end point of the route intersects with National Highway 23B, Thien Loc commune.

The project starts at km3+504 (Ky Vu Street, Thuong Cat Ward) and ends at km8+731 (National Highway 23B, Thien Loc Commune).

The main bridge is designed in the form of a cable-stayed bridge, the total length of the bridge and approach roads is more than 5.2km, of which the bridge is 3.9km long, the approach road is 1.3km long, the bridge surface is wide for 8 lanes (6 mechanical lanes, 2 rudimentary lanes).

The total investment includes site clearance of about VND 8,225 billion, of which the construction cost of component project 2 is VND 7,302 billion.

Regarding site clearance, the Hanoi Traffic Construction Investment Project Management Board (investor) said that the total reclaimed area is about 23.82ha, agricultural land is 5.67ha, public land is 14.27ha, residential land is 2.15ha, other land is 1.73ha; expected to have about 422 land acquisition plans (Thuong Cat ward about 135 residential land plans; 82 agricultural land plans; Thien Loc commune about 138 residential land plans, 67 agricultural land plans).

Of which, about 0.8/23.82ha of the site has been received (Thuong Cat ward has handed over public land), reaching 3.4%. It is expected to complete all site clearance work in June 2026.

The project construction period according to the contract is 26 months, to be completed in 2027.

After starting construction, the contractors (leading the North-South Company) completed preparations for construction after receiving agreement from the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment and being licensed by the City People's Committee.

To date, VND43/1,700 billion in capital has been disbursed in 2025, reaching 2.5%. Expected to disburse 100% in December 2025.

According to Permanent Vice Chairman of Hanoi People's Committee Duong Duc Tuan, the Thuong Cat bridge project is a key project, part of the Hanoi Party Committee's program on urban renovation and development and urban economy for the period 2021-2025.

According to Mr. Tuan, the above project is of great significance in completing the infrastructure of the red River, connecting the North of the Red River with the center of Hanoi, contributing to the completion of the Ring Road 3.5. Thereby playing a key role in strengthening the connection of the Northwest region with the central urban area of the city, sharing traffic with Ring Road 3.
