Martyrs' remains found in the bunker at Fulo Hill were commemorated and buried

Quang Tri - Local authorities and armed forces organized a memorial service and solemn burial of 3 sets of remains of martyrs at Cam Tuyen Cemetery.

On the morning of May 13, at Cam Tuyen Martyrs' Cemetery, Hieu Giang commune coordinated with relevant units to organize a memorial service and burial of 3 sets of remains of martyrs just found in the Northeast area, peak 278, Hieu Giang commune, Quang Tri province.

Attending the ceremony were Ms. Le Nguyen Huyen Trang - Deputy Director of Quang Tri Provincial Department of Home Affairs; Senior Lieutenant Colonel Ho Cong Son - Deputy Head of the Political Department of the Provincial Military Command, along with local leaders, armed forces, officials and people of An Thai village.

In a solemn and emotional atmosphere, delegates, armed forces and people respectfully offered flowers and incense, and observed a minute of silence to commemorate and express gratitude for the great contributions of heroic martyrs who sacrificed for the independence and freedom of the Fatherland.

Previously, on April 20 and 21, from information provided by people, the Team for Searching and Repatriating Martyrs' Remains of Division 968, Military Region 4 organized searches in the Northeast area of peak 278 and peak 288, Hieu Giang commune.

During the search, functional forces discovered and exhumed 3 sets of remains of martyrs in combat bunkers at a depth of about 0.7m.

The remains are located 0.6m to 0.7m apart. Many bones have broken into small pieces, some have been decomposed over time. The repatriation force also found 54 teeth and many accompanying artifacts.

The artifacts discovered included 1 bunker, 2 cylinders, 3 B52 rice bowls, parachute cords, information cords, 1 AK submachine gun that had been oxidized and a soldier's belt.

According to initial assessments, the martyrs may belong to Battalion 3, Regiment 27, Front B5, who sacrificed in the period from 1970 to 1971 when participating in combat in the 544 high point area, also known as Fulo Hill.

At the memorial service, the Party Committee, government and people of Hieu Giang commune expressed their deep gratitude for the sacrifices of the heroic martyrs; and vowed to continue to promote revolutionary traditions, unite to build an increasingly developed homeland.

After the memorial service, 3 sets of martyrs' remains were solemnly buried according to local rituals at Cam Tuyen Martyrs' Cemetery, Hieu Giang commune.
