According to initial information, fishing vessel QNg 95157 TS is captained by Mr. Bui Minh Long (36 years old), in Binh Son commune; on board there are 34 fishermen. The vessel departed on March 3, and on the night of March 5, the engine broke down while operating at sea in the area with coordinates of about 12°39′N - 111°50′E. Due to failure to fix the problem, the vessel had to drift at sea.
According to the Office of the National Steering Committee for Civil Defense, at 4:50 PM on March 8, fishing vessel QNg 95157 TS was drifting in the area about 100 nautical miles east-northeast of Nha Trang (Khanh Hoa), with weather with level 4 northeast wind.
In addition, fishing vessel QNg 90459 TS captained by fisherman Ngo Van Can (54 years old), in Binh Son commune; with 36 fishermen on board, is also having problems. The vessel departed from Binh Thanh Border Guard Station on February 28 to go fishing. On March 6, the vessel broke down in the sea.
After temporary repair to return to shore, by the morning of September 9, 3 ships continued to break down and had to drift. Currently, the ship is about 40 nautical miles from Vung Ro area.
Faced with the above situation, the Office of the National Steering Committee for Civil Defense has requested the Vietnam Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center and relevant forces to deploy support measures, and at the same time prepare specialized rescue vessel SAR 273 ready to perform the mission.
Fishing boats operating in the area were also called upon to approach and support the two ships in distress. The Naval Staff and the Vietnam Coast Guard have notified vehicles operating near the area to proactively support when necessary.
On March 9, representatives of the Provincial Border Guard Command said that ships of Naval Region 4 are on their way to support fishing vessel QNg 95157 TS. For vessel QNg 90459 TS, functional forces are continuing to deploy support measures to bring fishermen and vehicles ashore safely.
