On September 11, the Command of Military Region 7 coordinated with the Air Defense - Air Force Service and the People's Committees of Dong Nai city, Tay Ninh province, and Lam Dong province to organize the transportation and handover of 13,563 martyr remains samples for DNA testing and identifying martyrs.
Attending the ceremony were Lieutenant General Le Xuan The - Member of the Party Central Committee, Member of the Central Military Commission, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee, Commander of Military Region 7; Lieutenant General Tran Vinh Ngoc - Secretary of the Party Committee, Political Commissar of Military Region 7, along with representatives of leaders of the Air Defense - Air Force Service and localities.
Accordingly, 13,563 samples of martyrs' remains were transported and handed over in this phase, including 4,651 samples from Dong Nai city, 5,287 samples from Tay Ninh province and 3,625 samples from Lam Dong province.
The martyrs' remains samples are sealed and packaged in 144 specialized boxes, covered with the National Flag and preserved and transported according to regulations.
From the military terminal at Tan Son Nhat International Airport, martyrs' remains were transported by military transport aircraft of the Air Defense - Air Force Service to Gia Lam Airport, Hanoi.
After arriving in Hanoi, the Military Forensic Institute received samples of martyrs' remains from Lam Dong province. The Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology received samples from Dong Nai city and Tay Ninh province to conduct DNA testing to identify martyrs.
Speaking at the ceremony, Lieutenant General Tran Vinh Ngoc said that the search, repatriation and identification of martyrs' remains is a special political task, and at the same time expresses responsibility and gratitude to those who sacrificed for the independence and freedom of the Fatherland.
According to Lieutenant General Tran Vinh Ngoc, although the country has been peaceful for more than half a century, there are still many martyrs whose identities have not been identified. Sampling and DNA testing are aimed at supplementing information, gradually identifying the identities of the martyrs, contributing to bringing them back to their families and comrades.
Over the past time, the armed forces of Military Region 7 have coordinated with functional agencies, Party committees, local authorities, historical witnesses and scientists to implement many solutions to search, repatriate, take samples and identify martyrs' remains.
The transportation and handover of 13,563 sets of martyrs' remains this time is one of the activities to accelerate the progress of DNA testing, contributing to the work of identifying martyrs who lack information.
