On June 8, according to information from the Steering Committee 515 of Quang Ninh province, Quang Ninh province is currently managing 22 martyrs' cemeteries with 3,802 graves. Of which, 764 graves have not been fully identified.
Implementing the 500-day and night campaign to promote the search, repatriation and identification of remains of martyrs who lack information, the Steering Committee 515 of Quang Ninh province has selected Phong Coc Martyrs' Cemetery as a pilot for deployment first, thereby drawing experience to deploy at other martyrs' cemeteries in the area.
To date, Quang Ninh province has exhumed 288 graves at Phong Coc, Dong Trieu, Hong Phong, Duc Chinh, Nguyen Hue and Mao Khe martyrs' cemeteries; collected 271 samples of martyrs' remains, 17 graves that do not meet the sampling conditions.
The preservation, management and handover of specimens were carried out seriously. All 271 martyr remains samples have been handed over to the Military Forensic Institute for DNA testing.
Thus, Quang Ninh has exhumed 288/764 martyrs' graves with incomplete information, reaching 37.7% of the plan.
Along with excavating and taking samples of martyrs' remains, Quang Ninh province is also promoting the digitization of martyrs' data, martyrs' graves and relatives of martyrs; gradually standardizing and updating to the electronic database system, serving management, search and information comparison.
However, the implementation process still faces some difficulties. Many cases of relatives of martyrs who have passed away or live scattered in many localities, making it difficult to review and collect biological samples for DNA testing.
Most of the martyrs' remains have been buried for many years, under the long-term impact of natural conditions and environment, so the quality of samples has declined.
Many martyrs' cemeteries have undergone many repairs, upgrades, and renovations, making it difficult to accurately determine the location of graves, organize excavations, and take samples.
Quang Ninh province is focusing on deploying the tasks of the campaign according to the motto "clear people, clear tasks, clear responsibilities, clear progress, clear results"; accelerating the progress of collecting DNA biological samples of martyrs' relatives and taking martyrs' remains samples, striving to complete before September 2, 2026.
