Hanoi - From early morning on September 19, more than 550 volunteers joined hands to collect and sort waste, responding to World Cleanup Day 2026 (September 20).

According to the Hanoi Department of Agriculture and Environment, the amount of domestic solid waste received at centralized treatment areas has now exceeded 8,000 tons/day, of which a part of the generated waste is not collected and treated, and is dumped in vacant land and canals, putting pressure on the urban environment.

In that context, on the morning of September 19, the campaign "World Cleanup Day 2026" organized by Let's Do It Vietnam, focusing on collecting, sorting waste and raising awareness about reducing plastic waste at source, took place in Tu Liem ward, Hanoi.

At the program, Ms. Siisi Saetalu - Estonian Chargé d'Affaires in Vietnam said that World Cleanup Day is not only about picking up trash but also towards each person proactively taking responsibility for the living environment.

It's wonderful to witness the spirit and enthusiasm of everyone in today's program. Each individual participant not only directly contributes their strength, but also creates motivation for those around them to join hands in protecting a green, clean and beautiful environment," Ms. Siisi Saetalu emphasized.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Cam Tu - National Coordinator of Let's Do It Vietnam said that this year's campaign aims to change consumption habits, reduce the use of single-use plastic products, and strengthen recycling and sorting of waste at source.

Plastic waste is not only a threat to the ecosystem but also reflects our unsustainable consumption habits. This year's campaign does not stop at collecting waste, but aims to change thinking: Prevent waste right at source and consider waste as a resource that needs to be brought back to the circulatory chain," Ms. Tu shared.

In addition to young volunteers, the program also has the participation and companionship of a large number of employees and workers from businesses committed to sustainable development. Sharing with Lao Dong, Ms. Sayaka Arai - General Director of Honda Vietnam said: "As a business, we always strive and encourage employees and workers to participate in environmental activities. We believe that when we act together, small things will be multiplied and spread to the community.

Besides the Hanoi bridge point, the World Cleanup Day 2026 campaign is being responded to in many provinces and cities such as Hai Phong, Da Nang, Quang Ngai, Quang Tri, Binh Thuan, Ho Chi Minh City and Can Tho. It is estimated that more than 10,000 volunteers in 22 provinces and cities have participated in response activities, joining hands for a green - clean - beautiful Vietnam.
