On July 24, Mr. Nguyen Van Hung - Head of the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine (Department of Agriculture and Environment of Hue City) confirmed that the first African swine fever outbreak in 2025 in the city was recorded in Nam Dong commune.
Previously, the veterinary team inspected Mr. Cao Viet Hung's farm (village 9, Nam Dong commune) and discovered 14/25 dead pigs with signs of refusing to eat and turning purple.
The entire herd of pigs has been vaccinated with tricuspid vaccination. Samples were taken for testing, and the owner was instructed to disinfect the barn, committed not to sell sick pigs, and to destroy dead pigs according to regulations.
Test results on July 19 showed that the pigs were positive for African swine fever. The authorities have coordinated with the locality to thoroughly handle the outbreak, destroying all remaining pigs. Up to now, the outbreak has been basically controlled, and no new cases have been recorded.
Currently, Nam Dong commune has a total of 1,200 pigs, of which 790 have been vaccinated with the Spring triangle vaccine (reaching 84% of vaccination cases). The commune is implementing a plan to vaccinate livestock and poultry for the Autumn crop.
According to the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine, in July, Nam Dong commune had more than 200 dead pigs, most of which were unknown, concentrated in the villages: A Xach, La Van, Phu Thuan, village 8 and village 9. The unit has provided 146 liters of chemicals, directed the Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Station of Region 6 to coordinate with localities to disinfect, isolate, and prevent the spread of the epidemic.
