From June 27, 2025, the first African swine fever outbreak occurred in Nghia Giang commune, Quang Ngai province. As of July 21, 2025, the epidemic has spread to 1,685 livestock farms in 243 villages of 34 communes and wards. The total number of pigs infected with disease and forced to be destroyed is more than 9,600 in 1,685 households, with a total weight of 577 tons.
In the face of the complicated developments of the epidemic, the Department of Agriculture and Environment advised the Provincial People's Committee to issue documents directing departments, branches and localities to synchronously deploy epidemic prevention and control measures across the province.

As of July 21, 2025, the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine has provided 920 liters of disinfectants and 1,000 doses of African swine fever vaccine to localities to serve epidemic prevention and control. Thanks to the synchronous implementation of solutions, the province has promptly prevented the consumption of sick pigs and thrown animal carcasses into the environment.
According to the Department of Agriculture and Environment, epidemic prevention and control work is still facing difficulties. Many localities after the merger have not yet arranged specialized staff for animal husbandry and veterinary medicine, so the consultation on epidemic prevention at the grassroots level is still limited. In addition, the lack of funding allocation has caused many obstacles in purchasing materials, chemicals, and vaccines.
