Informing Lao Dong Newspaper on September 23, Vietnam Airlines said that according to the complicated developments of storm Ragasa (storm No. 9), Vietnam Airlines will adjust the flight operations plan for some flights to ensure the safety of passengers and crew.
Accordingly, flights between Vietnam and Northeast Asia will be adjusted to avoid the storm's affected areas.
At the same time, the airline will cancel flights between Ho Chi Minh City and Hong Kong (China) on September 23.
In addition, many domestic and international flights on September 23 may be affected by Typhoon Ragasa.
Vietnam Airlines Group recommends that passengers wear seat belts throughout the flight, especially in complicated weather conditions. Proactively installing seat belts, even when the signal lights are turned off, is an important measure to help reduce the risk of the aircraft encountering air disturbances.
Regarding super typhoon Ragasa (typhoon No. 9), Vietnam Air Traffic Management Corporation (VATM) urgently held a meeting to deploy measures to respond to the super typhoon.
According to the forecast, it is likely that air traffic control zones (ACC) of Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and airports in the Northern and Central regions will be directly affected.
At the meeting, the Aviation Meteorological Center presented many scenarios for forecasts and direction of the storm, noting that if Ragasa shifts north, the impact on the airport could be reduced.
The authorities have reviewed flight operations data, prepared to adjust flight paths to avoid storms and deployed many other support measures. The VATM Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue requires the entire system to urgently activate response plans, assign specific tasks to the 24/24 hour on-duty force, and strictly comply with the "four on-site" principle.
In addition to preparing forces, vehicles and logistics, units must review and supplement the content of response plans according to the disaster risk level and issue appropriate scenarios. The response report must be sent to the Standing Committee of the Command Committee before 10:00 on September 24.
Regarding super typhoon Ragasa, the Ministry of Construction has just issued an urgent telegram, requiring affiliated units and localities to focus highly, synchronously deploy storm prevention solutions, to ensure the safety of people, vehicles and infrastructure.
According to the telegram, the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam must direct airlines to closely monitor the situation, promptly adjust flight plans, and at the same time strengthen inspections of airport infrastructure and terminals to ensure absolute safety of aviation operations.
According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, super typhoon Ragasa is very strong and has a wide circulation, so it is important to note that although the center of the storm is still very far from the mainland, the circulation west of the storm's center, the coastal areas of the Gulf of Tonkin, from Quang Ninh - north of Quang Tri, even the sea area of Lam Dong - Ca Mau, Ca Mau - An Giang, is likely to have thunderstorms before the storm, this is a very dangerous phenomenon for ships operating along the coast.
