On October 18, according to a reporter from Lao Dong Newspaper, the Giao Hoa River embankment project (Chau Thanh District, Ben Tre Province) has been basically completed. People living along the Giao Hoa River embankment shared that they are very excited that the project is almost completed, from now on they will no longer have to worry about landslides.
Mr. Le Van Van (living in Giao Long commune, Chau Thanh district, Ben Tre province) said that since the embankment construction began, the local people have been very excited and no longer have to spend money to reinforce the dike. Up to now, the Giao Hoa river embankment has been completed and is very aesthetic, opening up development opportunities for the locality in the future.
“We can now rest assured that we are no longer afraid of landslides or water flooding into our gardens or houses like before. I see many people coming here to walk in the evenings. In the near future, my family will open a coffee shop to earn more income,” said Mr. Van.
About 100m from Mr. Van's house, Mr. Tuan (living in Giao Long commune, Chau Thanh district, Ben Tre province) said that before, there was a serious landslide near this area, people were very confused. Since the construction of the Giao Hoa river embankment, people here have been very supportive.
“In the past, landslides have caused a lot of people to lose their land. We have to spend money and effort to reinforce and fill the eroded sections. Currently, the Giao Hoa river embankment invested by the government is almost completed. Through that, it will be very effective in protecting the land and fruit gardens of the people,” said Mr. Tuan.
Mr. Nguyen Hoang Huy - Deputy Director of the Management Board of Investment and Construction Projects for Agricultural and Rural Development Works in Ben Tre Province - said that the Giao Hoa Riverbank Erosion Prevention Project started construction on December 22, 2023. This project, with a total length of about 472m, upgrades the management and operation route along the 945m embankment. In addition, the 63m-long landslide embankment under An Hoa Bridge will be upgraded and the existing embankment crest and railings will be repaired and upgraded for more than 1.1km. The project has a total investment of 105 billion VND. Of which, the central budget reserve in 2023 will support 100 billion VND, the remaining amount will be matched by the provincial budget.
According to Mr. Huy, the project has been basically completed and is ready for acceptance and handover for use. When the Giao Hoa river embankment project is put into operation, it will prevent erosion that directly affects residential areas, loss of production land, housing and the lives of more than 300 households in Giao Long commune.
