Vinh Long - Nearly 7,000 people with meritorious services and relatives of martyrs were given free health check-ups, spreading gratitude and gratitude on the occasion of the 79th anniversary of War Invalids and Martyrs' Day.

Bringing meaningful healthcare to people with meritorious services

On the days of the 79th anniversary of War Invalids and Martyrs' Day (July 27, 1947 - July 27, 2026), in many communes and wards in Vinh Long province, thousands of people with meritorious services and relatives of martyrs were given free health check-ups and disease screenings right in their localities.

From July 25, a large number of wounded soldiers, sick soldiers, veterans and policy families are present at the examination points. In addition to general examinations, people also have access to many specialized techniques directly performed by doctors from upper-level hospitals.

At the Trung Ngai Commune Health Station, Mr. Tran Van Hoang - a veteran, former prisoner of war who was infected with chemical toxins - was consulted by doctors at Binh Dan Hospital (Ho Chi Minh City) about war sequelae, and at the same time, ultrasound and screening for common underlying diseases in the elderly.

Mr. Tran Van Hoang said that for many years, his family has always fully enjoyed policies for people with meritorious services. According to him, organizing health check-ups right in the commune helps wounded soldiers, sick soldiers and the elderly more conveniently in health care.

I am luckier than many comrades who lay down on the battlefield. Living in peace is the greatest happiness. I hope today's young generation will always cherish history, live responsibly with the country and continue the tradition of their fathers and brothers," Mr. Tran Van Hoang shared.

Also at the examination point, Mr. Le Van Hoa (77 years old), a veteran who participated in the Cambodian battlefield, was examined by doctors, consulted on treatment of cardiovascular disease and war sequelae. According to him, the fact that upper-level doctors come to the locality for examination is a great source of encouragement for people with meritorious services.

Spreading the morality of drinking water, remembering the source

Not only taking care of health, the program also presented many meaningful gifts to people with meritorious services. On this occasion, 59 wounded soldiers, sick soldiers, people with meritorious services and people with disabilities in difficult circumstances in the province were given wheelchairs, contributing to supporting daily life.

Receiving a new wheelchair for her husband, a 1/4 wounded soldier, Ms. Pham Thi Dung, residing in Trung Ngai commune, emotionally said that the fact that doctors from Ho Chi Minh City came to the locality to examine patients, distribute medicine and give gifts made the family clearly feel the concern and gratitude of society.

According to Dr. Ho Thi Thu Hang - Director of Vinh Long Provincial Department of Health, on July 25, the Department of Health coordinated with hospitals in Ho Chi Minh City and sponsoring units to simultaneously provide medical examinations and free medicine distribution to nearly 7,000 wounded soldiers, sick soldiers, people with meritorious services and relatives of policy families in many communes and wards.

In addition to general examinations, ultrasound screening for digestive diseases, urology, and free cataract surgery, hospitals also transfer techniques and provide professional training in surgery, urology, and congenital heart disease recognition to grassroots medical staff.

Dr. Ho Thi Thu Hang - Director of Vinh Long Provincial Department of Health said that the program not only helps people with meritorious services access quality medical services right in the locality but also expresses deep gratitude to those who have contributed and sacrificed for the independence and freedom of the Fatherland.

At the examination points, volunteers also support people to install VNeID electronic health records and the "Doctor for Every Home" application, making it more convenient in managing, monitoring health and accessing medical services.

The series of gratitude activities has deeply spread the morality of "When drinking water, remember the source", "Gratitude", turning gratitude into practical actions, contributing to taking care of the health and improving the quality of life for people with meritorious services and relatives of martyrs in the province.
