Khanh Hoa completes DNA sampling target at 2,124 martyrs' graves with unclear information

Khanh Hoa - Forces have completed taking samples of 2,124/2,124 graves with unidentified information at 7 martyrs' cemeteries, exceeding the expected progress.

On the morning of September 11, the Steering Committee for implementing the "Operation 500 Days and Nights" of Khanh Hoa province organized a conference to evaluate the results of the implementation of the "Operation 500 Days and Nights to promote the search, repatriation and identification of martyrs' remains".

One of the outstanding results recorded is the work of taking samples of martyrs' remains for DNA testing.

From May 26 to August 13, the forces completed taking samples of 2,124/2,124 unidentified graves at 7/7 martyrs' cemeteries, exceeding the expected completion schedule in December 2026.

Among these, 1,240 graves have samples that meet the conditions for DNA testing, reaching 56.38%; 884 samples do not meet standards.

All 1,240 eligible samples have been handed over to the Military Forensic Institute through 4 phases, reaching 100%. By August 27, all 7/7 martyrs' cemeteries had completed the restoration of the original tomb status.

More than 2,700 DNA biological samples collected

The work of collecting DNA biological samples from relatives of martyrs is also being implemented simultaneously.

As of September 10, the whole province has reviewed and updated 10,769 information of relatives receiving allowances; reviewed 12,206 martyr information; created data of 4,704 martyr relatives whose graves information has not been identified.

The whole province has collected 2,740/3,018 DNA biological samples of relatives of martyrs, reaching 90.7% of the plan.

The work of searching, exhuming, and repatriating martyrs' remains has achieved positive results. As of September 10, the Team for Searching and Repatriating Martyrs' Remnants of the Khanh Hoa Provincial Military Command coordinated with localities and relevant forces to survey and verify information in 93 areas, estimating that there are about 69 graves with unidentified information.

To date, the forces have searched and collected 59 sets of martyrs' remains, reaching 39.33% of the target of 150 sets of martyrs' remains.

Notably, in the Thanh Dien Khanh Prison area, by September 5, the forces had searched and exhumed 39 sets of remains of martyrs and ended the search.

Strive to complete all targets

In the coming time, Khanh Hoa province will continue to thoroughly grasp the Party's guidelines, policies, laws of the State and guiding documents; focus resources on collecting DNA biological samples, surveying, verifying, concluding information, searching, exhuming and repatriating martyrs' remains.

The province strives to complete 100% of the target of collecting 3,018 DNA biological samples; verifying and concluding 168 areas, 946 martyr grave information and collecting 150 martyr remains.

Mr. Nguyen Viet Hung - Chairman of Khanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee highly appreciated the spirit of responsibility of departments, agencies, branches, and localities and the results achieved, especially the completion of 100% of the sampling target at 7 martyrs' cemeteries and the search results at Thanh Dien Khanh Prison.

Chairman of Khanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee requested to continue to identify this as a particularly important political task, a responsibility of the entire political system.

The Provincial Military Command is assigned to preside over and accelerate the search and gathering work; People's Committees of communes and wards strictly implement local conclusions; departments and branches coordinate to standardize and digitize dossiers, improve the quality of sample collection and ensure resources to perform tasks.
