On September 9, information from the Steering Committee 515 of Thanh Hoa province said that the locality has completed taking samples of remains of unidentified martyrs at all 25 martyrs' cemeteries in the area.
Previously, implementing the "Operation 500 days and nights to promote the search, repatriation and identification of martyrs' remains", functional agencies reviewed and organized sampling for 2,922 martyrs' graves whose identities have not been identified.
As a result, functional sectors have taken samples at 2,602 graves. There are still 320 graves that cannot be sampled, mainly due to the actual conditions of remains, graves and some other objective factors.
According to the plan, Thanh Hoa is expected to hand over 2,621 samples to serve the appraisal and identification of martyrs. Among them, 2,602 samples were taken at martyrs' cemeteries in the province and 19 samples of martyrs' remains were collected in Laos in the dry season of 2025-2026.
The sample handover was carried out according to the correct procedure, ensuring management, preservation and serving DNA testing.
To date, 471 samples have been handed over to units with receiving and testing functions. The remaining samples are being further completed by functional agencies to complete procedures for handover according to regulations.
According to the Steering Committee 515 of Thanh Hoa province, the completion of sampling at 25/25 martyrs' cemeteries is an important step in the process of identifying remains of martyrs who lack information, contributing to meeting the expectations of relatives of martyrs and implementing gratitude policies.
