Khanh Hoa develops a modern seaport system, welcoming ships of 400,000 tons

Khanh Hoa - The locality sets a goal to synchronously develop a seaport system, forming an international transshipment port, smart port and green port.

On July 11, Khanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee announced that it had issued a plan to develop the Khanh Hoa seaport system for the period 2026 - 2030.

According to Mr. Tran Hoa Nam - Vice Chairman of Khanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee, by 2026, the seaport system of the province will be organized and managed including 6 main wharves: Bac Van Phong, Nam Van Phong, Nha Trang, Cam Ranh, Ninh Chu and Ca Na.

The whole province currently has 21 ports with 42 wharves (including docks), the total length of wharves reaches 8,785.5m.

The largest ship receiving capacity reaches 400,000 tons at Nam Van Phong wharf and the smallest is 2,000 tons at Ninh Chu port.

According to the plan, by 2030, Bac Van Phong wharf area is oriented to develop into an international transshipment port, with a container wharf receiving ships up to 24,000 TEUs, and bulk and bulk cargo ships up to 250,000 tons.

At the same time, develop Dam Mon international passenger wharf capable of receiving tourist ships up to 22.5 million GT.

Nam Van Phong wharf area continues to serve Van Phong Economic Zone and surrounding areas, receiving general ships up to 100,000 tons, bulk ships up to 300,000 tons, liquid and gas ships up to 150,000 tons and supplementing container wharves to receive ships up to 18,000 TEUs.

For Nha Trang wharf area, the province is oriented to convert the entire function into an international passenger port and a high-class specialized marina, capable of receiving tourist ships up to 22.5 million GT.

Cam Ranh wharf area is oriented to serve the economic development of the Central Highlands interconnected region, receiving general ships, containers and bulk goods up to 70,000 tons, and also receiving international passenger ships up to 220,000 GT associated with the requirements of ensuring national defense and security.

Truong Sa special zone port will be synchronously invested in infrastructure, wharves and maritime equipment to serve socio-economic development combined with ensuring national defense and security.

Meanwhile, Ca Na wharf area is planned to develop into a deep-water port serving import and export and local industry.

Ninh Chu port is oriented to become a passenger and tourist port combined with domestic general cargo transportation, receiving ships up to 2,000 tons.

To realize the above goal, Khanh Hoa will focus on attracting financially strong corporations, port operators and large shipping lines at home and abroad to participate in investing, managing, and operating key port areas.

In which, the province prioritizes calling for strategic investors for Bac Van Phong International Transshipment Port, Nam Van Phong container wharf and general and specialized ports in Cam Ranh and Ca Na.

According to the plan, from 2030, Khanh Hoa seaport system will operate according to mandatory standards for "Green Ports" and "Smart Ports".
