On June 23, Hung Yen Provincial People's Committee worked with the working delegation of the Ministry of Construction led by Deputy Minister of Construction Nguyen Xuan Sang on developing maritime infrastructure and inland waterways in the province.
At the working session, delegates focused on assessing the current situation, orienting the development of the seaport system, inland waterway ports; channel and route dredging projects and deploying investment in waterway transport infrastructure in the area.
According to reports and opinions at the conference, Hung Yen is orienting the development of a synchronous maritime and inland waterway infrastructure system with road and aviation traffic planning and the goal of forming a Free Economic Zone of the province. This orientation aims to effectively exploit the advantages of coastal development space, waterway transport corridors, and at the same time reduce pressure on the road traffic system.

The province requests the Ministry of Construction to pay attention to supporting the adjustment of the planning of Hung Yen seaport in the direction of receiving large tonnage ships; supporting investment in Duc Hop inland waterway port; considering decentralizing management of some national inland waterway routes.
At the same time, the province proposed to study putting into planning a port capable of receiving 200,000-ton ships to serve the operation of the Free Economic Zone and create new development momentum.
Speaking at the working session, Mr. Nguyen Xuan Sang highly appreciated the development orientation of Hung Yen province after the merger, especially the implementation of key projects and the planning of a synchronous connecting transportation system, creating room for socio-economic development in the coming time.

Regarding maritime infrastructure development, Mr. Nguyen Xuan Sang proposed that the province closely follow the spirit of open planning, study a model of public investment combined with private management for the port system to form a core development corridor for the waterway port and dry port network, create new driving axes and contribute to reducing road traffic pressure.
The Deputy Minister of Construction assigned the Vietnam Maritime and Waterway Administration, the Department of Planning and Finance to coordinate with the Hung Yen Department of Construction to study and promote investment in Duc Hop Inland Waterway Port; and at the same time review and complete the contents of planning adjustments according to the development orientation of the national transport infrastructure system.
Regarding the development orientation of Diem Dien seaport, the Ministry of Construction agreed with the policy of supporting the province to study construction. However, it is necessary to continue to assess the possibility of raising the planning of a port with a scale of receiving ships over 200,000 tons to serve the Free Economic Zone and ensure overall connection with the development orientation of Nam Do Son Port of Hai Phong.
